Schulze Baking Company Building

Once considered a modern and advanced bakery where Butternut Bread was baked, the Schulze Baking Company building is now a vacant terra cotta and concrete shell. Come step inside the totally raw and empty space, which was designed and built in 1914 by Chicago architect John Ahlschlager. Aside from the elaborate terra cotta detailing at the cornice level, the exterior of the building features Art Deco characteristics like bold use of color and an emphasis on geometric patterns. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, and is planned to renovation into a data center.
