Oak Park
Unity Church of Oak Park
405 N. Euclid Ave.
DETAILS:
Legend has it that Frank Lloyd Wright declined the commission for the Taylor residence due to creative differences with the clients. The sumptuous, rectilinear Prairie-Style estate is a textbook George Maher design on a generous site. It was the family's home until 1963 when they sold it to Unity Church--not to be confused with Unity Temple. The sprawling horizontal home includes large windows, a beautiful stair-wrapped foyer and decorative motifs throughout. Several additions have been made by Unity Church over the years, including a sanctuary and sunlit atrium. The building serves as a center for spiritual living, offering Sunday services, educational programs for adults and youth, and prayer and healing services.
