DETAILS:

Research has suggested the ReBuilding Exchange's facility was originally used for sheep shearing. Today's use is much different, but still quasi-industrial. Rebuilding Exchange diverts tons of building materials from the landfill, trains and supports people entering the construction trades, and promotes reuse through community workshops in woodworking, home improvement, and creative reuse. This vast store of architectural salvage includes pieces of Chicago history like bits of facade from the former 1896 Randolph Street 'L' station, the frog from the original Navy Pier Carousel, and vintage seats from the Music Box Theater.

VISITOR EXPERIENCE:

The retail space will be open and visitors are welcome to browse at their leisure. Informational posters will highlight salvaged historical items. And the benefits of deconstruction vs. demolition as well as refurbishing techniques will be explained.
