DETAILS:

Astor Club opened in 2023 as a private members dinner club capitalizing on the fascinating history of its location. Tucked away in the basement of Bertrand Goldberg's modernist Astor Tower apartments, this space was originally home to Maxim's, an opulent restaurant attracting the likes of The Beatles, Muhammad Ali, Judy Garland, and Frank Sinatra on swings through Chicago. It even housed the city's first discotheque before shuttering in 1982, only opening for periodic special events in the years since. The new Astor Club reinvigorates Maxim's stylish Art Nouveau-inspired space designed to mimic the still-operating Parisian institution Maxim's de Paris. The low-lit, plush interior is adorned with memorabilia, photography, art, vintage lighting, a pair of retro phone booths, and a 1936 Steinway grand put to regular use. Other attractions include the "L'Imperiale Lounge" cocktail bar and private event and meeting spaces.

VISITOR EXPERIENCE:

Visitors will be offered a brief tour of the club lobby, lounge and dining room. NOTE: Astor Club is located at 24 E. Goethe Street, in the basement of Astor Tower. Please be aware that Google Maps may mistakenly route visitors to Astor House, one block north at 1340 N. Astor Street.
