South Side Green

Neighborhood

Coincidence or not, many of the most pioneering eco-friendly buildings in Chicago are on the South Side. These projects run the gamut from academic facilities to single-family homes and even a designer and fabricator of green roofs, each embodying a strong commitment to environmental responsibility in their own way. They have much to teach us as we chart a course toward city-wide sustainability. Illinois Green Alliance Associate Director Katie Kaluzny and CAC Docent and PhD candidate in environmental education Laurel Kruke lend their expertise to this self-guided tour of influential new green buildings from Chinatown to Woodlawn.
